I've thought about this post for a very time.
I'm not going to lie, but I have a feeling that I may rant a tiny little bit.
The subject of ranting is Tyranids... odd but hear me out. I'm fed up of listing to podcasts and looking/searching the internet to see if anybody is doing something cool with Nids. I have found a few like this guy http://www.flickr.com/photos/64078429@N06/8203221405/in/photostream/
I absolutely love what he has done with the Tyranid kits and I am slowly starting some twin/linked devourers to match the same.
Getting off subject... I'm getting abit bored of seeing the same old Tyranid build, yes its powerful but cant people but a twist on it... not copy and paste? I know 2 Flyrants and 2 Tervigons is a win win situation but I think its one of the many great builds 6th Edition has opened up. Some of the builds are obviously to good not to run but I think trying to swarm the army has some problems.
One current thought atm is to use the most unloved unit in the game a chance... Pyrovores. Right a few people in the states have looked at this but no-one seems that bothered in the UK. I'm thinking 3 of these badboys in a Pod hitting the back field of the opponents force and torching the blog squad or the 5 marines hiden to take a last min objective.

Idea being that the reserves come in on turn 2, with the benefit of the swarmlord, pods coming down near the flyrant. not much can survive the power of the devilgants. Hopefully granting you first blood and a hard to shift core in your opponents deployment area. And with near 57 shots on overwatch, a daunting prospect to charge.
devilgaunts are the bomb! always have been but the double points cost is abit shit for a 6+ save and t 3.
Deletei did play around with 2 trygon primes popping up with the tunnels and getting devilgants out of the hole the turn after but the amount of times the gaunts showed up 1st got annoying!
do you think you have enough shooting in your list? as i keep wanting more 3 carnifex's are tempting me alot but i like the fact the trygon can come in generally on turn 2 and cause a massive distraction with 12 shots :D
I've found that they are worth it despite the relative cost, the ability to hit things like longfangs and lootas sitting on the opponents backline can be priceless, with the swarmlords reserve bonus and potentially having enfeeble on target units.

i completely overlooked the fact you had these guys in a pod! now that is tasty! i just think Pyrovores can do the same job but better... well i say better 1 will die and wounding the other 2 in doing so!
Deletei quite like warriors atm they seem to do a good job in contesting and just general annoyance.

Unfortunately missed blog wars, conflicted with another engagement. The pyrovores could probably work, however, I prefer using the elite slots for other units. With only being a heavy flamer you have a limited range, scatter will effect you quite a bit. The devourers have a longer range giving a bit more flexibility, also with the termagants being scoring your opponent is forced to dedicate units to deal with them. Or lose their own objective and line breaker.
DeleteI still think warriors are a little fragile. Would have preferred toughness 5 on them.
i think the pyrovorers are something to play with. i think its hard to chose what to go with the elite slots. I have so many points in HS which can deal with APC's and Flyers. I might end up taking Hive Guard to deal with Bikes as they definitely seem to be on the rise in 6th.

The flyrant and the trygon prime make it possible with the synapse, though tyranid warriors could be just as effective.

I have:
Flyrant x2 TLD with Hive comander upgrade (he is my anti flyer unit)
Tyrant with armoured shell and stranglethorn cannon to bring up the rear
2 harpies with TL stranglethorn cannons
a carnifex with 2x TLD
a trygon
(these 2 work in synergy, well thats the hope)
a mawloc
and a tervigon to sit in back field securing objectives, there really is no need for 2
and a 10 man squad of guants
I basically wanted to get as many cool models into my list as I could. And I do ok at games probably 50/50 win losses. But it's all fun for me :)

i just find that alot of armies are becoming similar especially in the competitive lists and it can just get abit boring.
i like the fact you have 8! mc's in your list. seems like a great idea. i may have to try it out.
Those tlds are made from a carnifexes crushing claws, two gaunt devourers and the ammo feed is from a lash whip, I sawthe white dwarf daily.
